Veterinary Cardiology | Intrahepatic Shunts

Tobi’s info page

My name is Tobi Wagner, I am a Specialist Veterinary Cardiologist (Dip ECVIM-CA) and work at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists (SCVS). I created this page to provide useful information to vets and owners. Creating this page was initially triggered by the common question following echo courses about where to find quickly the echocardiographic reference values — so, here they are!

I am planning to gradually grow this page and will add information about minimal invasive treatment of congenital heart disease in dogs and cats which we commonly perform at SCVS. While we have an extensive track record of performing many minimal invasive procedures we also push the boundaries via international cooperation with some of the best veterinary interventionists and have performed interventions which go ways beyond the typical PDA closure, balloon valvulplasty and pacemaker implantation.

We also established a cooperation with Prof Matthias Schneider, University of Giessen, Germany for closure of intrahepatic shunts, using his  innovative method which allows complete closure of the intrahepatic shunt in the majority of patients. Please read more in the section ‘IHPSS Direct Shunt Embolisation’ — coming soon.
